Molly McCann created history as the first English woman to win a UFC bout — and she has a stunning shiner to show for it.
The Liverpool-born the featherweight with the nickname “Meatball” fought Brazilian “Zombie Girl” Priscila Cachoeira and the pair slugged out a brutal fight in the preliminaries of UFC Fight Night 147.
Her eye was closed before the match finished but she was dominant, winning a unanimous decision.
It turns out the (8-2) needs surgery for a broken orbital bone she suffered in the fight.
“Honestly, I’ve been through hell and back since the last fight,” McCann said after her win. “I wanted to give a performance you’d be proud of.”
Recently named UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping was in commentary and said in the early stages, the fight was an early contender for fight of the night.
The fight of the night eventually went to the main event between Jorge Masvidal and Darren Till — and arguably the backstage antics between Masvidal and Leon Edwards — but McCann earned plenty of new fans.
“This was an out and out war from start to finish both ladies putting an absolute beating on each other,” he said.
“Look at that eye, and Molly didn’t give a damn. Look at that, beaten injured but still throwing like a maniac. It got a little bit dirty, got a little personal. I was gobsmacked, I loved this fight so much.”
McCann was in good spirits after heading to hospital.
After the event she posted an inspiring, expletive-laden, message to her fans.
“Here with me coach, I’m fine. I got the f**ing win. Anyone who is struggling in life don’t give up because I swear to god you can beat your dreams if you don’t f***ing stop,” she said.
Social media had definitely found a new hero.

The fight started a brilliant card at UFC London but the fighting took a back seat to the horrific scenes that unfolded backstage following the main event.
Jorge Masvidal emerged victorious in the final fight with a vicious knockout of Darren Till that left the entire crowd silent.
But the stunning victory has been overshadowed by the ugly scenes that unfolded once Masvidal walked out of the Octagon and into the backstage arena.
In the middle of his post-fight interview, Masvidal began jawing with Leon Edwards who had earned the split decision win in the penultimate fight of the night.
As the two men came face-to-face, Masvidal let his fists fly and landed several blows before they were separated by security.
The moment brought back memories of the ugly scenes following Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s showdown in Las Vegas.
