Manchester United transfer target Kalidou Koulibaly is one of the best centre-backs in the world.
That’s the view of former Italian defender Marco Materazzi who appeared to suggest that Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk isn’t.
The former Everton defender failed to list the Dutch defender in the top three defenders on the planet despite van Dijk being in contention for the PFA player of the year after a superb season.
When asked who the best centre-backs in the world are by Suning PPSports TV he said, via the Metro: “I think that right now, among the strongest centre backs are Koulibaly, Sergio Ramos and Romagnoli.”
The 27-year-old has emerged as one of the best defenders in world football in the last few years while Ramos is already a household name at Read Madrid.
Romagnoli is the interesting name on Materazzi’s list after shining at AC Milan and he is seen as the next big hope in Italy.
