Liverpool’s goalscoring threat from set pieces in recent weeks has added an extra dimension to their blistering attack and boosted their confidence in the chase for Premier League and European glory, midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has said.
Defender Virgil van Dijk rose high to head home in their 3-1 win at Bayern Munich on Wednesday as the Merseyside club reached the Champions League quarter-finals.
It was the towering Dutchman’s third goal from four games in all competitions and Wijnaldum said his compatriot’s goals were important contributions to ease the burden on the front three comprising Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
“We can score from set-pieces, from good football, from counter-attacks. We have all different kinds of qualities that can help us score goals,” Wijnaldum told the club’s website https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/342019-georginio-wijnaldum-virgil-van-dijk.
