Trump, Williams and Wilson make Welsh Open exits

World champion Mark Williams headlined a list of big-name casualties on the third day of the Welsh Open.

Williams was beaten 4-2 by Zhang Anda and was joined by Masters champion Judd Trump and German Masters champion Kyren Wilson in packing his bags.

Trump was upset 4-2 by Duane Jones while Wilson was knocked out by Joe O’Connor, who triumphed 4-3.

There were no such problems for former champion Mark Selby, a 4-0 winner over Adam Duffy, or for Ronnie O’Sullivan, who breezed past Yuan Sijun 4-2.

The five-time world champion edged closer to his 1,000th career century, with breaks of 120, 66, 90 and 99 taking him to 993.

O’Sullivan will now face Alexander Ursenbacher, a 4-1 winner over Zhang Jiankang.

Amateur James Cahill, who saw off Selby in the first round of the UK Championship, continued his heroics with a 4-2 win over former world champion Shaun Murphy.

Stuart Bingham saw off Matthew Selt and Neil Robertson beat Gary Wilson, both by a 4-1 margin, while Barry Hawkins was a 4-2 winner over Ben Woollaston.

John Higgins advanced with a 4-2 win over Dominic Dale, while there were also wins for Jack Lisowski, Michael Georgiou, Elliot Slessor, Robbie Williams, Jimmy Robertson, Martin O’Donnell, Sam Craigie, Jak Jones and Craig Steadman.
