James Argent reveals he plans to lose SEVEN STONE before joining Dancing On Ice as he vows to kick start his diet this week

James ‘Arg’ Argent has revealed on Wednesday he intends to lose seven stone before he decides to join Dancing On Ice, and follow in girlfriend Gemma Collins’ footsteps.

The TOWIE star, 31, spoke candidly with The Sun about his new goal, which would see him lose 10lbs a month if he were to take part in the show, which is set to begin rehearsals before Christmas.

The reality star explained: ‘If I was to do Dancing On Ice next year I’d want to lose seven stone. By this time next year I’d be a year and a half sober so I’d be in a pretty good position to do it.

‘Gemma would love to see me do the show, purely for the fact that I’d go through everything that she’s gone through.’

Arg added that he’s already going on a diet from this week, and is also looking to go to a boot camp to kick-start his healthier lifestyle.

This comes after it was reported on Monday that he was negotiating appearing in the next series of the ITV skating competition.

Impressed by is girlfriend’s dramatic weight-loss as a result of the intense physical training which the show demands, the television personality is keen to do the same, and is also keen to partner with professional skater Brandee Malto, 37.

According to a report from The Sun Online, the TOWIE star began talks with producers as Gemma, 38, was saying her farewells, and already has his eye on being partnered up with professional skater Brandee Malto, 37. 

At the time, a spokesperson for Dancing On Ice told MailOnline: ‘No discussions have begun for the next series of Dancing on Ice.’

It’s been just over a week since James appeared on Loose Women, where he said: ‘I’m around six months sober at the moment, I’d still like to get a bit of weight off.’

Panellist Nadia Sawalha, 54, addressed the topic of weight, acknowledging Gemma’s recent 2st loss as she trained for Dancing On Ice.

Nadia said: ‘We’ve discussed weight before. Is it hard for you that Gemma has lost weight and you’ve clearly… you have put weight on?’

Arg took the comment in his stride and said: ‘I hold my hands up I can’t deny it. I won’t lie to you.’

But addressing the fact that he’s successfully got sober, he said: ‘One thing at a time.’

While Gemma admitted she starred on the ice-skating show because she couldn’t get pregnant without losing weight.

The recently evicted competitor, lost two and a half stone while doing her gruelling training on the ice rink for the show after she claimed Jason body shamed her.

She said: ‘Regarding having children and everything, I was told I needed to lose weight, that was why I agreed to doing Dancing on Ice, because it was going to help me long-term. 

‘I’ve definitely struggled with it [questions about having children]. A lot of my friends that I’ve been on TOWIE with have all gone on to have children and it’s just, everyone’s always like, ‘When are you going to have a baby?’

‘I did have a few problems and did feel kind of, not fully whole, as a woman. Because it was, “Oh my god I can’t have children, people are going to look down on me”.’

As well as losing the weight, the GC said she will need to take a drug called Clomid which is a medication used to treat infertility in women who do not ovulate.

Gemma also shared how she is planning to begin taking the medicine at the end of this year to ‘start the process’ after focusing on her career at the beginning of 2019.

She added: ‘Then I got two other second opinions. Everything is going to be OK. They just said I need to lose weight, they will put me on a drug called Clomid and we will start the process. That is something I’ll be looking to do at the end of the year.’
