Wes Nelson, 20, and Vanessa Bauer, 22, took to the ice for the first time on the ITV show Dancing On Ice last night.
The pair’s performance, which scored 25 points from the judges, came after the professional split from her boyfriend Louis Nathaniel.
The Sun reported he became concerned about her “growing closeness” to Wes, who is in a relationship with Love Island co-star Megan Barton Hanson, 24.
The publication claimed the skater has fallen victim to the Strictly Come Dancing style famous curse where relationships supposedly begin or end due to participating on a dancing show.
This morning, Vanessa spoke out about her break-up and said it has “nothing to do” with Dancing On Ice 2019.
She uploaded a picture with the message: “Louis and I split for absolutely private reasons which has nothing to do with DOI!”
Vanessa continued: “It’s hard enough to deal with a break up privately. So upsetting to see papers inventing stories not respecting ones privacy at all.
“Don’t believe all the b******t!”
Wes and Vanessa topped the leaderboard after receiving a four from judge Jason Gardiner with sevens from the rest of the judges.
The two showcased their figure skating skills to song Dancing to Gravity by DJ Fresh ft Ella Eyre.
Wes’ girlfriend, Megan sat on the front row to cheer on her beau whilst he performed.
The blonde beauty put on a glamorous display in a figure-hugging pink dress and styled her locks in a sleek bob.
Before performing, Wes addressed his “chemistry” with Vanessa, who won the show last year with Jake Quickenden.
He filmed himself saying to the camera: “It’s really important you have chemistry with your partner but not too much chemistry!”
The reality star added: “I’ve got a girlfriend.”
Judge Christopher Dean also complimented the pair during his critique of their routine and said: “What a beautiful looking couple out there on the ice.
“If you could put two people together, this would be it.”
Following their performance, Vanessa uploaded a picture of herself with Wes and explained how proud she was of him.
She wrote: “WEEK 1 DONE! I am beyond proud of @wes.nelson.”
The professional skater continued: “Thank you guys sooo much for your votes and support!
“We appreciate it soo much and are over the moon to be even on top of this weeks leaderboard!!! Whaaaaat ?!?! THANK YOU! #DancingOnIce.”
