Twitter 'divided' after Taoiseach Leo Varadkar's interview on RTE's Late Late

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that the housing crisis is something “that keeps him up at night”.

He was a guest on last night’s Late Late Show where host Ryan Tubridy asked why after eight years of a Fine Gael government, the housing crisis remains something that “they can’t get a handle on”.

Roughly 10,000 people are now classed as homeless with many facing Christmas without a permanent home.

Leo Varadkar apologised to families living in hotels and said he would try to fix it but, said it may not be possible to eliminate homelessness.

“I think we can certainly make it better than it is and we can resolve families being in hotels and B&Bs for long periods of time.” the Taoiseach said.

The RTE host continued to grill the Taoiseach about the health service with the Taoiseach saying that the government have “a plan to change it and make it better.”

Some RTE viewers were unhappy with the Taoiseach’s answers to the RTE host’s questions and took to Twitter to share their views.

“Jesus the silence when the Taoiseach was asked if the Health Service is fit for purpose says it all really” one wrote.

“Fast forward 12 months and it’ll be the same scenario, same questions, same answers!” said another.

But, others came to the defence of the Taoiseach.

“Leo came across as a down to earth and likeable person. Yes our country has its issues but it’s good to see the human side of a leader who works hard to address them. Give the man some credit .” said one.

The Late Late Show is on Friday nights on RTE One.
