Chelsea vs Man City prediction: Mark Lawrenson reveals doubts – 'I never

The Liverpool legend and pundit insists he has had doubts about Maurizio Sarri’s side since as far back as August.

Chelsea went on a stunning unbeaten run in all competitions up until less than a fortnight ago when they lost to Tottenham at Wembley.

Victories against PAOK and Fulham followed, but Wolves shocked them with a fightback last night to win 2-1.

Sarai has still only lost twice in competitive games as Chelsea manager, although they are starting to slip away from City.

Pep Guardiola’s team head into Saturday’s showdown at Stamford Bridge (5.30pm) 10 points clear of fourth-placed Chelsea.

The Blues have a far inferior goal difference too, and a third defeat for Sarri on Saturday would suddenly all but end their title hopes.

Lawrenson wrote in his BBC Sport column: “Chelsea made a fabulous start to the season but I have never seen them as genuine contenders in the title race.

“This has become an even tougher game for Blues boss Maurizio Sarri with his side losing two of their past three away games, and I am going for a City win here.

“Very few teams have really tested City this season”

“Away from the Champions League, very few teams have really tested City this season.

“Liverpool gave them a good game at Anfield and they drew at Wolves, but Wolves’ goal should never have been allowed anyway.

“So it is going to be interesting to see how close Chelsea get to them, and whether they can make life difficult for the champions at all.

“I really do have my doubts.”

Liverpool are City’s closest challengers for the title as they are just two points worse off, with Spurs next back and eight points adrift of the leaders.

In a boost for Chelsea this weekend, though, Sergio Aguero remains a doubt for City with an adductor problem.
